Everything in the known universe began as a cloud of dust. Dust is vital in revealing the secrets of our past. Knowing how, when and why things happened can also inform and educate us about our future. Dust covers everything- every asteroid, planet and moon. It surrounds every star and fills the vast vacuum of space. On planet earth, even with our protective atmosphere 200 Tonnes of dust fall on us every day. Layer upon layer of ancient dust are compressed in the earths core and make up every natural resource our planet has to offer.
We have systematically mined our planets natural resources to near-depletion. Instead of learning from our mistakes, now humans are looking to other planetary bodies in our solar system to continue extracting the minerals and materials that we have become reliant on. First stop? The moon.
This is a protest bike. Jump on and cycle around the mood to stop the very near-future risk of large companies mining the moon for precious materials. We have exhausted our own planets natural resources but instead of learning from our mistakes, humans continue to want more.
My first odyssey into metal work. 2.5cm steel tubes and existing bicycle parts bent around bespoke jigs and welded together.
